The Guy on the Keys
Hey, i’m Hayden!
Pianist | Composer | Teacher
Getting on the keys at the age of 6, I’ve never looked back. What began as a before school activity turned into one of my greatest passions.
Being a classically trained pianist with a Bachelor of Music Composition and a Masters of Teaching, I have embraced both performing and improvising within a wide variety of styles including classical, contemporary, rock, pop, theatre, folk and jazz.
My experience includes performing at weddings, retirement villages, bars, on radio stations including North West FM and 103.5FM, for organisations such as GLOBE, as well as in musicals such as Sri Lankan Fireteam - The Power Of Song. I have also worked as a pianist for The Australian Ballet classes, and I am a long-standing member of Impromptunes, an improvised musical comedy troupe.
My music has been performed live by Ensemble Phorminx in Germany, the Canberra Youth Symphony Orchestra, and by Melbourne-based ensemble Plexus. I also regularly compose for music theatre, including for Melbourne Comedy Festival show Heart Thy Neighbour and Melbourne Comedy Festival musical Jamie And The ATAR.
I have received several awards and selections including The ASME Young Composer Award (Victoria), a selection for Top Class and Top Acts in 2013, and The Elizabeth Stainkamph Memorial Prize.
